Massage After Plastic Surgery

Lymphatic Drainage Massage after plastic surgery is SO IMPORTANT because it is the primary way to help heal and support your body in recovery and getting you  looking SNATCHED.

Sounds simple, right?

But what IS your lymph system and what does it do? And why should you even care?  In this article, Lymphatic Drainage and Plastic Surgery, I want to explain some basics of why lymphatic drainage massage is SO IMPORTANT after plastic surgery.

Imagine a city (like Jersey City, for example) that has no sewer system. The street would flood with water and sewage, there would be accidents and it would be REALLY difficult to get around.

Thats why, when your lymph system gets backed up, or sluggish, or in the case of plastic surgery – damaged, your body gets swollen, sore, painful, and sometimes you feel like your coming down with the flu. You see, your lymph system is your waste removal system. It’s directly linked to your immunity and how your cells behave over time.

This might sound gross, but your cells poop. I KNOW RIGHT?! They produce cellular waste as they burn energy to keep us alive. That waste is a protein rich fluid called, you guess it: Lymph fluid. It is deposited into a space between your muscle and skin called your interstitum. Most of the time you don’t notice it because when the pressure from that fluid builds up, these little drains called vacuoles (like a bathtub drain) open up, move it through your lymph vesicles (just like sewer pipes) and move that fluid up to your vena cava (a vein around your neck), all the while moving through your lymph nodes (those places your doctor checks when your sick) and eventually you pee it out.

HOW COOL IS THAT?!

So if you think about it along the analogy of a sewer system, it’s like having all these roads flooded and you need someone to come in and remove all the fluid, so the roads work again.

Thats where we come in.

Especially after something like liposuction, or a BBL, your internal sewer system has been damaged and we need to help move the fluid along to healthy structures. This is also the reason you wear a compression garment, to help the fluid move along – it’s ALSO the reason you get “pooling” of fluid at the bottom of the compression garment. It’s like a dam, and all the fluid behind it gets backed up. Anyway, I digress. After doing plastic surgery, your body needs months to recover, and rebuild the sewer pipes around the area that was affected. During that entire time you need help to get your fluid build up out of that area. You can do that yourself, and it’s important that whomever you see teaches you the correct way to do it.

The coolest thing about your lymph system is that in time, it always builds those sewer system vesicles right back to how they were, and your body will operate just as it did before. Studies show that the more often you do lymphatic drainage massage after plastic surgery procedures, the more quickly your system will recover. What that means is getting that snatched waist you wanted in the first place, way more quickly.

Most people have never heard about their lymphatic system before doing something like an elective surgery, so you are not alone in having a ton of questions. The unfortunate truth is that a bunch of doctor’s offices don’t address this part of the healing process, so you might be reading this and wondering if something went wrong. I am here to tell you that MOST of the time, your body is doing exactly what it should. Liposuction recovery takes much much longer than you might expect. We are here to help, so ask anything you might be confused or scared about. We can even help you prepare for your surgery so your lymphatic system is as healthy as possible before you go in.
